The Fresh Market Closes Its Doors In Texas

The Fresh Market will be closing 13 stores soon. Eight of these stores are located in Texas, and these retail establishments have been in competition with other grocery stores like H-E-B, Kroger and Wal-Mart. The central market division for The Fresh Market is also located in Dallas.

Fresh Market arrived in Texas around the same time that Trader Joe’s made its debut in the state. There are also several Whole Foods Markets in Houston and Dallas, which may have something to do with why Fresh Market will be leaving Texas soon.

Employees were informed that Fresh Market stores were closing on Tuesday, May 3. On May 4, the stores will re-open and groceries will be discounted. Fresh Market Senior Vice President Karen Stout sent a letter to employees of the grocery store, explaining that all Texas locations will close for good on May 18.

One Fresh Market anchored two major shopping centers in Dallas, both of which were developed by Lincoln Properties. The other Dallas Fresh Market is currently located at Garland Road and Gaston Avenue. This location is also just minutes from a Whole Foods Market.

The Fresh Market is a North Carolina-based grocer, and also has two stores in Southlake and Fort Worth.
