Who knew the gift of a bike could make such a difference in the life of a woman battling multiple sclerosis. Now the quality of life enjoyed by Anna Leigh Kirk is better than ever. On April 30 and May 1, Anna and many others will be participating in Bike MS, a two-day, 160-mile bicycling event to benefit the MS society.
Ms. Kirk was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 9 years ago, and the disease progressed very rapidly. A year ago, Ms. Kirk was barely able to walk on a treadmill and had trouble getting out of bed in the morning. Nine months ago, she received a bike from Meat Fight, a barbecue competition. The only requirement was that she had to cross the start line. After Anna received the bike, she was inspired and became determined to complete the race. As she began riding, she became stronger and gained better control of her disease. Ms. Kirk is excited to be participating in the Bike MS event and is planning on training for a triathlon next.
Anna Leigh Kirk’s story is one of inspiration and courage. She states, “My life is in motion when I kind of thought it was at a halt.”
