Highland Capital recently announced a newly formed partnership with Linda Owen, Dallas civic leader and former president of The Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation. Highland Capital is an asset management firm based in Dallas, TX co-founded by James Dondero and is one of the largest and most experienced in regards to global alternative credit managers today.
James Dondero has extensive experience in the credit markets and is responsible for strategic investment and operation initiatives at Highland Capital as well as portfolio management. He has over 30 years of experience in the credit market and is one of the original pioneers of the Collateralized Loan Obligation.
Dondero has received recognition and awards for funds associated with his management. He received the Morningstar 5-star designation for Global Allocation in 2014 as well as the Lipper Award for Floating Rate Opportunities in the same year. His prior experience before Highland Capital included being the CIO for Protective Life’s GIC subsidiary and managing nearly $1 billion in fixed income funds for American Express. While operating as CIO for Protective Life’s GIC subsidiary, Dondero grew the business from the ground up to $2 billion in 5 years.
Owen will be responsible for providing direction for Highland’s philanthropic activities in support of the firm’s growing charitable giving program. Owen will work hand in hand with The Dallas Foundation which currently administers Highland’s charitable giving fund. This decision came with the realization that with the expansion of philanthropic activities also came the need for a dedicated individual to focus those efforts in order to have the greatest impact.
Highland currently contributes more than $3 million annually in charitable giving through The Dallas Foundation. Owen’s extensive experience includes overseeing the development of Klyde Warren Park in Dallas while President and CEO of the Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation. Prior to that she served as the president and CEO of The Real Estate Council and led the Dallas-Fort Worth area commercial real estate association and its nonprofit.
